What is Canoe/Kayak Marathon?

Canoe Marathon is a sport for all ages.

It is a low impact sport and full body workout that involves paddling distances greater than 5 km with or without portages on flat water courses. Traditional marathon races can be completed in either canoes or kayaks. However in the Paddle NSW and club races stand up paddle boards can also be used.

Portage

Traditional marathon racing competitions include portages . A portage is a section of the race where the athlete runs with their boat around artificial or real obstacles.

Many of our club members paddle in the PaddleNSW Marathon Series. This Series consists of a number of races held throughout NSW and are hosted by affiliated Clubs on their own waterways. Marathon series events are held all over the state, taking paddlers to new towns or unexplored corners of well known cities.

The PaddleNSW Marathon Series caters for paddlers of all ages and skills, allowing paddlers to choose from race distances of 5, 10, 15 or 20kms – and within time ‘divisions’ to suit their current experience.
